At last Tuesday's Yarra Ranges Council meeting I could not possibly support an amendment motion to include a member of the Yarra Ranges Conservation Alliance to the Parks Victoria DELWP PortPhillip Haining Farm design/implementation working group. The amendment motion was lost by a majority 6-2 vote. Council will write to the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, requesting to have a local Don Valley representative on the design/implementation committee for the Haining Farm redevelopment.
Furthermore Council insists that the design/implementation must:
1. Not increase the bushfire risk to communities.
2. Be adequately funded for implementation and ongoing maintenance.
3. Control pest plants and animals.
4. Not have an adverse impact on rural industries, i.e. tourism, agriculture and recreation.
For more information about the redevelopment and consultation, visit engage.vic.gov.au/yellingboconservationarea and click on the Haining Farm tab, email hainingplan@parks.vic.gov.au or call 13 19 63.

Yarra Ranges Localised Planning Statement (LPS)
The Minister for Planning has approved the Yarra Ranges’ Localised Planning Statement (LPS) which was adopted by Council on 27 June 2017.
“The Victorian Government is committed to protecting the unique valued features and attributes of Melbourne’s green wedges. As outlined in government’s metropolitan strategy, Plan Melbourne 2017-2050, Melbourne’s green wedges support a wide range of non-urban land uses and activities including biodiversity assets, such as national and state parks, as well as agribusiness activities, forestry, food production and tourism assets. I am pleased that your LPS will enable a good balance to be achieved between the needs of your community, the economy and the environment.
I note that your LPS makes reference to the Upper Yarra and Dandenong Ranges Regional Strategy Plan and it is intended that both of these documents will be used to guide decision-making.”
- HON RICHARD WYNNE MP Minister for Planning.
