Redwood Forest remains closed.

Last week and in recent weeks, with the relaxing of restrictions associated with the corona virus crisis we are seeing greater numbers of visitors to our municipality. Over the last couple of weeks, Redwood Forest, 1000 Steps at Upper Ferntree Gully, Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens in Sherbrooke and other sites have seen quite significant numbers.
Parks Victoria closed the Redwood Forest and the 1000 Steps sites until 22 June aligned with the State of Emergency period.
Despite these locations being closed last weekend, there was still issues with visitors to both sites.
Parks Victoria have advised that they will have staff on site at both locations for a period of time in the morning and afternoon over the weekend. They have been liaising with Victoria Police who will have units rostered on to patrol weekend hotspots, including Redwood Forest. Yarra Ranges Council Local Laws team will also monitor parking at Redwood Forest over the weekend and have contact details for Victoria Police to seek their assistance if needed.
Parks Victoria have organised additional electronic Variable Message Boards to be located in Warburton and East of the Clegg Road roundabout in Wandin.
It is good to have visitors returning to Yarra Ranges, however this of course needs to be managed in an appropriate way.

I encouraged women to participate in Local Government

2020 is a local government election year and therefore it is a critical time for councils to be engaging the women in their communities.

The VLGA - Victorian Local Governance Association Inc, along with other stakeholders is committed to increasing the representation of women in local government and achieving the State Government’s target of 50 per cent women councillors by 2025.
I encouraged women to participate in local government at all levels - as community members, council officers, candidates and elected representatives. - Cr Jim ChildYarra Ranges Council.
