Priority roads to be sealed

Yarra Ranges Council has endorsed priority roads to be sealed under the $150 million Federal Government funded road program announced by Tony Smith MP earlier this year.
At the top of the list:
. Cavanagh Road, Millgrove (Westley Road to Moore Crescent)** Outside the Millwarra Primary School campus.
. Moore Crescent, Millgrove (South of Cavanagh Road)** to the Millgrove Recreation Reserve.
** These two roads will be wholly funded by the Federal Government funding, as the roads primarily will benefit local schools, preschools and community facilities.
Over many years I have strongly advocated for these two roads to be sealed and I'm so pleased it is now going to happen. A big thank you to the local Millgrove community for your continued support for this wonderful outcome.
Check out the full details of the program and the 10 year priority list @

NSW Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) Return and Earn

I was pleased to be part of the Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA) Delegation - NSW Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) Return and Earn last Friday 13th September.
Key presentations:
NSW Government:
Baharak Sahebekhtiari, Director, Contract Management and Network Operations, CDS.
Rhonda Hobson, Manager, Programs and Strategic Relationships, CDS.

TOMRA Cleanaway:
James Dorney CEO
Key learnings:
• No Cost to Government, State or Local.
• A CDS will remove a waste stream from our collection, giving a cost reduction.
• Increase employment across the State.
• Great opportunities for the creation of social enterprises.
• Return and Earn has been very successful to date.
• After first year, price increases due to the CDS reflect a workably competitive market.
• State of the art technology across the whole process.
• Biggest hurdle in Victoria will be the State Government to introduce the CDS legislation and the contractual agreements.
My Recommendation to Council:
Council give consideration and support for the introduction of a Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) for Victoria.
Officers to prepare a report to Council Forum to lobby the State Government for a CDS for Victoria in line with NSW’s Return and Earn.

Ag Industry - Have Your Say. ....

The Australian Government Department of Agriculture are enhancing Australia’s traceability arrangements across animal, plant and food industries. The Department says this will help with managing pest and disease outbreaks, food safety, trade and market access requirements, and address increasing consumer interest in product sustainability, ethics and providence.
The Government wants to know:
• how the proposed changes will affect your specific industry?
• how we can minimise disruptions, including integrating with existing or planned systems?
• how to improve system compliance
• what points in the supply chain need a property identifier?
