More time to respond to the Engagement and Directions Paper. Yarra Ranges Council's Draft Warburton Place Plan will be released to the community for consultation in early 2020. In October, Councillors approved the development of the Draft Warburton Place Plan, following community engagement between December 2018 and May 2019. That engagement informed an Engagement and Directions Paper, which contains the major themes, issues and opportunities raised in workshops, meetings and feedback from community members. Copies of the Engagement and Directions Paper are available at the Art Centre, Warburton. Since Council’s decision, community members have requested more time to respond to the Engagement and Directions Paper. Our Place Planning Team will continue work with the community to gather additional feedback, which will inform the draft in early 2020. The draft, when completed, will be released to the community for consultation before the place plan is updated and finalised. We encourage community to get in touch with the project team, email placeplanning@yarraranges.vic.gov.au or call 1300 368 333. The Warburton NetworkCEDA - Warburton Valley
Thanks for telling us your thoughts about the Warburton Mountain Bike Destinatioin in 2018 and 2019!
We’ve heard from more than 300 community members about the project over the last 18 months, representing business , government and community groups, as well as people from a range of backgrounds.
This feedback was shared through drop-in sessions, meetings and an online survey, along with the State Government’s Engage Victoria website, and has directly resulted in changes to trail alignments to better protect the environment, removal of trails near residential areas and mapping and protection of areas of historical significance.
All of this has informed the Draft Master Plan, which we’re expecting to share with the community in March 2020.
The Draft Master Plan will explore different parts of the Warburton Mountain Bike Destination project, including environmental considerations, trail alignments and ideas for future stages.
Community feedback on the draft will be essential for creating the final Master Plan, which will be presented to Council for consideration.
We’ve compiled all of the feedback received over the last 18 months into an Engagement Report featuring feedback we received on a number of key themes, including:
The road network
Traffic and parking
Environmental management
Trail route and design
Additional trails
Private property
Bush walking
Safety risks
Protection of heritage or culturally significant sites

A new sporting pavilion, covered tennis and netball courts and improvement’s for walking and cycling are some of the potential changes proposed for.
The Draft Master Plan has been developed using direct feedback from user groups of the recreation reserve and feedback from the local community, and proposes several potential improvements for the coming 10 years.
“With the town growing and a surge in growth with our local sporting clubs – including women’s Australian Rules teams – the ageing facilities at the reserve just don’t meet the current demands of the community, let alone the demands that will come up in the future,” Cr Child said. Check out the Draft Master Plan, complete the survey and give Yarra Ranges Council your feedback. https://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/…/Help-shape-the-future-…
Yarra Junction Recreation Reserve, in Council’s latest Draft Master Plan.
At today's Yarra Junction Remembrance Day service hosted by the Upper Yarra RSL Sub-Branch. It must never be forgotten that this was the Ultimate Sacrifice. I can’t imagine the pain and misery that must have been experienced both on the battle field but more so at home by those receiving the news of a lost husband, son, grandson or brother. Over the past 5 years the Upper Yarra RSL Sub-Branch in conjunction with Yarra Ranges Council embarked on projects to commemorate the centenary of the Great War but above all to continue to remember those young fallen who made the Ultimate Sacrifice. Those projects, The Yarra Junction Avenue of Honour & the Wesburn Avenue of Honour both on the Rail Trail are to commemorate that this was where these young men embarked on a journey of no return. Please take the time to walk these avenues and reflect on all those young lives lost. On behalf of the Mayor of Yarra Ranges Council, Cr Tony Stevenson and my fellow Councillors, can I ask you all to join me in thanking the Upper Yarra RSL for these Avenues of Honour commemorations - ‘100 years of ANZAC, The Spirit Lives. Thank you – Lest We Forget.
Yarra Ranges Council is raising concerns about impacts on community members, in light of the State Government’s announcement that native forest timber harvesting will end by 2030 and that supply to timber mills be substantially reduced from 2024.
The Timber Industry is at the economic heart of some of Yarra Ranges’ smaller towns, and directly employs 420 people and countless others in ancillary and service industries.
Yarra Ranges Mayor, Tony Stevenson, said he was extremely concerned on behalf of community members working in the timber industry.
“We know that families have been experiencing a great deal of uncertainty, stress and anxiety about their futures for some time,” Cr Stevenson said.
“Today’s news advises them of the State’s position, but we think there’s still work to be done so workers, families and local timber businesses know the way forward and what support might be available for them.
“It is critically important that every effort is made by the State Government to support transition to new local jobs and opportunities in our Upper Yarra towns. We need local jobs to keep our communities vibrant, to support local services and underpin the many community volunteer activities.
“We acknowledge the State Government’s announcement of $120 million to ensure that the industry is supported during this transition. Our communities want to see guarantees from the Government that timber industry workers in the Yarra Ranges will receive support during this period of upheaval.
Council will write to the State Government, seeking information and guarantees about what will be provided locally to community members impacted by the transition.
O’Shannassy Ward Councillor, Jim Child said that the timber industry has had an extensive history in the region and provides economic stability for towns in the Upper Yarra.
“The native forest timber industry has been a significant part of the history of areas such as Healesville and Warburton and of the current economy in towns across O’Shannassy Ward in the Upper Yarra, such as Yarra Junction, Wesburn, Gladysdale and Powelltown,” Cr Child said.
“This history dates back more than 100 years, and we acknowledge the work done by timber industry workers to support the communities in that time, particularly during the recovery from the 1939 bushfires which devastated the region.
“We have 420 community members working directly in the industry with families to support, with countless others working in the supply chain.
“We know the forestry, logging, sawmill, wood and paper manufacturing industry generates $215 million in economic output and $104 million in exports, and we value the work that our timber industry has provided locally.
“We know the community has a long and difficult road ahead of them now.
“We will write to the State Government to get more information about this decision, and what support will be provided locally.”
