Recycling as usual in the Yarra Ranges.

Yarra Ranges Council is urging residents to continue recycling, following recent media reports of recycling plant closures.Recycling provider SKM recently closed two recycling plants, meaning a number of Councils in Victoria have had to re-assess their recycling programs and make alternative plans.
Council uses VISY for its recycling collection and processing, and is confident that recyclables collected in the area will continue to be processed appropriately.
VISY is continuing to receive and recycle material from Yarra Ranges, and the recent closure of SKM’s two recycling plants will not have any impact on our area.
This means that recyclables collected in the area will not be diverted to landfill.
Council urges residents to continue separating their waste and recycling appropriately.

Environmental water for the Yarra River.

Melbourne Water have confirmed they will commence the summer release of approximately 4GL of environmental water for the Yarra River from Monday 18th February (today) to Thursday 1st March, 2019.
This release is a “Summer Fresh” and is designed to mimic summer flow conditions. The release will occur from Upper Yarra and Maroondah Reservoirs and will impact water levels along Watts River and the Yarra River main stem. River levels can be expected to rise up to 50cm in the Yarra River and 90cm in the Watts River during the release and are within the normal natural variation of the river.
Please be aware of the water rising within the waterway over the coming two weeks.
This flow release is being made in accordance with the Victorian Environmental Water Holder’s (VEWH) Seasonal Watering Plan, with water from the Yarra River Environmental Entitlement.

The State Government must invest in Alternative Waste Processing NOW!

The State Government must invest the Sustainability/Land Fill Levy $500m+ Fund in Alternative Waste Processing NOW. .... Waste to energy, the only way to go!
As the recycling volatility continues, The Municipal Association of Victoria Vic Councils is calling for greater State Government industry oversight after more than a decade of under investment of landfill levy revenue amid Friday's notice by the Environment Protection Authority to stop two Melbourne sites from receiving recyclable materials.

Minister refuses to act in the interest of Reefton/McMahons Creek Community safety

Sorry, Jaala Pulford MP Minister for Roads, Road Safety and the TAC, your answer is not good enough, all the Reefton/McMahons Creek Community want is for their pedestrian bridge as committed to Yarra Ranges Council by VicRoads to be reinstated as soon as possible.
"I can confirm that in the past several weeks, a second funding application was lodged by VicRoads to be considered for the 2019/20 funding cycle. This is further to an unsuccessful application that was made in 2017 for the same matter.
VicRoads expects to receive further information regarding the outcome of this application from the government, mid-2019.
Further to this, if the RMAG wishes to lobby for the progress of this application I would encourage you to follow the matter up with your state member of parliament.
If there’s anything I can help you with or further information I may provide, please feel free to get in contact."  - VicRoads 20th November 2018.

PLEASE Minister Pulford in the interest of our children's safety act on this issue.
