Up Date - Yarra Ranges Council / Federal Government Roads for the Community Program

I am posting to advise of upcoming road construction works along Junction Street, Yarra Junction. These works are to construct the unsealed length of Junction Street that travels alongside the Upper Yarra Secondary College. This project is included in the list of roads to be constructed around schools as part of the Federal Governments Roads for the Community Initiative as announced by Yarra Ranges Council & Hon Tony Smith MP Federal Member for Casey.
The works will include constructing a concrete channel to delineate the current off street parking area, formalisation of a large vehicle turn around area and the sealing of the pavement. I have attached the layout plans that show the extent of the works.
Discussions regarding the timing of the works have been undertaken between the Upper Yarra Secondary College and the contractor appointed to deliver the project. It has been agreed that some of the work on the road will commence in mid-March (approximately 16th March) with the major works to be completed in the school holiday period in late March / early April 2020. This approach will ensure there are minimal impacts to the school and they are happy with this methodology. All going well the sealing of the road will be completed by the Easter weekend (weather permitting).
On a side Council Officers have been in contact with contractors regarding availability to commence works on the Cavanagh Road and Moore Crescent Millgrove road constructions. From discussions there should be a contractor available to begin these works from mid to late April this year.

Victorian Electoral Commission Yarra Ranges Shire Council subdivision review.

Your input is valuable. As a local, you know your council area better than anyone.
Subdivision reviews ensure that voters are equally represented within a council after any population changes.
The Victorian Electoral Commission hold a review if the number of voters per councillor in any ward at the next council general election may be:
10% more than the average across the council
10% less than the average across the council.
This is your chance to have a say on where the ward boundaries should be.
Have your say
You can tell the Victorian Electoral Commission your views about that proposal in writing. Submissions open on Wednesday 19 February 2020.
In your submission you can request to speak at a public hearing. Find out more about public hearings and how to request to speak.
The public hearing will take place:
5.30 pm Wednesday, 25 March 2020
Montrose Town Centre, 935 Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd, Montrose.
The hearing will not be held if there are no requests to speak.

Yarra Ranges Council

VicRoads Safety Issues continue along the Warburton Hwy & Woods Point Rd.

Along with the serious issue at Seville East, I again raised at last Tuesday's Yarra Ranges Council meeting the serious safety issues that STILL exist between Barak Drive and Warburton Highway, Yarra Junction. Also the COMMITMENT made by VicRoads regarding access following the removal of the Pedestrian Bridge at McMahons Creek.
"In accordance with Clause 80 of Meeting Procedures and Use of Common Seal Local Law 2015
9.1 Safety Issue on the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail.
Cr Child raised the issue of the safety of those using the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail. In particular, concern was expressed regarding the section between Barak Drive and
Warburton Highway where there is little to no protection. It was reported that although VicRoads had been notified of concerns in 2017 and that a request was made to install protection on the Highway side in 2018, they had responded that there had been no record of fatalities. It was reported that a further letter to VicRoads has been sent to VicRoads and that Council were awaiting a response. In light of a recent accident at this location Cr Child has requested that the Director Environment & Infrastructure report back to the next
Forum outlining the progress of this matter. He also suggested that if a response was not received from VicRoads before the next Council meeting, Council should write to the
Minister. Councillors agreed to the request"
"9.3 Pedestrian Bridge at McMahons Creek.
Cr Child raised the matter of the commitment made by VicRoads regarding access following the removal of the Pedestrian Bridge at McMahons Creek. It was reported that
the community continued to raise the matter and Cr Child therefore requested a report back to Forum on this. Councillors agreed to the request."
