Stage 3 “Stay at Home” restrictions are in force across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire. Includes Yarra Ranges Shire.
“These restrictions are necessary because of the sharp increase in cases,” said Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton.
“If you live in these areas, there are only four reasons to leave your home: shopping for food and essential items; care and caregiving; daily exercise; and work and study - if you can’t do it from home.
“These are tough measures, but this virus is not selective - it will impact anyone it encounters, and personal contact is the clear source of its transmission. We need everyone to do their part and ensure it is stopped in its tracks.”

Warburton Water World to open later this year

A water play park with a playground and spaces for all community members will be opening later this year, when COVID-19 restrictions ease, thanks to a partnership between Council, the Federal Government and the Warburton community.

The Warburton Water World is a new recreation precinct for the community, replacing the former Warburton Outdoor Pool with a new playground, water play areas and spaces for community groups to hold events.

O’Shannassy Ward Councillor, Jim Child, said the Water World would become one of the Yarra Valley’s most visited play areas in warmer months.

“We know that everyone in the community loves our water play parks at Lillydale Lake and at Seville Recreation Reserve,” Cr Child said.

“This park will be something on a whole different scale. Think gigantic slides, water buckets, jets and plenty of places to play when it’s too cold for the water.

Council contacted primary schools in the area earlier this year, to decide on a name for the Warburton Community Recreation Precinct.

Millwarra and Warburton primary school students chose Warburton Water World as the formal name, to represent the different play activities at the park.

“This spot has a lot of significance to the community, as many residents will have memories of the former pool and afternoons spent enjoying a dip in the sun,” Cr Child said.

“We’ve planned this precinct with this in mind and know this will become a spot for families to make new memories, have fun with friends and return to for years to come.

"We are aware that the community has expressed concern in regards to parking at Warburton Water World. We’ve kept that in mind when planning this area and we’ll have a dedicated car park ready as soon as we can to serve the new Warburton Water World

“When the COVID-19 situation eases and restrictions are loosened, we’ll be planning an opening event for the water world – I promise it’ll be worth the wait.

“I’d like to thank the Federal Government, the Warburton Advancement league and the Warburton Sports Centre Committee for partnering with us on this project.”

Federal Member for Casey, Tony Smith, said that, once opened, community members would flock to the new park in warmer months.

“I think the Warburton Community will be delighted with the new spaces and play equipment at the Warburton Water World,” Mr Smith said.

“This is a space that the community haven’t used since the closure of the pool and it’s fantastic that we’ve been able to keep water play in the area, for when the warmer months come around.

“When things are safer in the community from the COVID-19 pandemic, I’ll look forward to welcoming the community to use this space and enjoy all it has to offer.”

The Federal Government has provided $1.7m for the project through its Regional Growth Fund, the Warburton Advancement League has provided $20,000 for a train engine with junior slide and the Warburton Sports Centre Committee has provided $120,000 to contribute towards the remaining playspace items.

Yarra Ranges Council has contributed $2.8m to the project.

Review To Protect Victoria’s Forests, Jobs And Timber Industry.

The Victorian Government has commissioned a broad-ranging review to safeguard the Victorian Forestry Plan – and the regional jobs and environmental protections it will deliver.
A clear, accurate and enforceable Code is needed, supported by strong enforcement powers for Victoria’s Conservation Regulator.
As a result, the Government has initiated a review of the Code of Practice for Timber Production 2014 to:
. Minimise the risk to short-term supply obligations arising from third-party litigation
. Ensure it remains fit for purpose and facilitates the implementation of the Victorian Forestry Plan.
. Strengthen the regulatory powers available to the Conservation Regulator
. Identify regulatory reforms informed by the 2019-20 bushfires.

Council supporting businesses to move to cheaper renewable power

The success of a two-year pilot Environmental Upgrade Agreement Program that enables businesses to upgrade buildings to improve energy efficiency and lower operating costs will continue, after gaining support at the 23rd June Council Meeting.
The EUA program enables business prosperity through facilitating building upgrades that improve environmental performance that:
• Lower operational costs for business
• Generate local employment, and
• Create sustainable branding opportunities
An EUA is an agreement between a property owner, a financial institution and local government. The agreement facilitates building upgrades that improve environmental performance. Where there are tenants leasing the property, EUAs allow for tenants to contribute to the costs of the upgrade and share in the benefits with the property owner.
Further details of the Environmental Upgrade Program can accessed from either Yarra Ranges Council or Sustainable Australia Fund websites or make contact with the Sustainability Team at Council on 1300 368 333.
Council’s draft Liveable Climate Plan is also currently out for community consultation, where residents can have their say by visiting https://yrc.vic.gov.au/climate.

Millgrove Residents Action Group

Great to be with the Millgrove Residents Action Group again last night for their monthly online ZOOM meeting. Council Officers from the Recreation & Active Living and Community Development Teams briefed MRAG on the progress of the design/delivery of the Council/State Government funded much needed River Rd Trail.
MRAG is well on the way to completing the Avenue of Honour Project with quotes for signage in, well done Bob Lillie for leading this project especially his skill in applying for grants and quotes etc.
The Millgrove Community Plan review is progressing, a plan that was built by the community and has achieved so many of it's priorities in recent times, I really look forward to the draft being released to the community for comment, a big thank you to Kate Baselier for her tireless work with the review.
And below, a topic of last night's meeting, a sincere approach and commitment to keep the Millgrove community informed. #StaySafe & #StayHome - Thank you.
