2009 Victorian Bushfires 10 year commemoration

Yarra Ranges Council will be hosting an event at McKenzie Reserve in Yarra Glen to commemorate the ten year anniversary of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires on Thursday, 7 February, starting at 5.30pm.

A State Commemoration event for the 10 Year Anniversary of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires will be held on Monday 4 February 2019.

The event will be livestreamed here, starting at 6pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), Monday 4 February 2019.

Warburton Community Alert Siren

Testing the Warburton Community Alert Siren - This morning, Sunday 6th January. This siren is based at the Warburton Fire Station, so depending on where you live (and the wind direction) you may hear it..or you may not.

This regular testing will occur on the first Sunday of each month.Thank you CFA District 13 Warburton Fire Brigade CFA.

Community alert sirens are used as part of Victoria’s warning system for all hazards – including flood, fire and storm. Community alert sirens are only used when there is imminent threat to the community.

Extended Siren (5 minutes) – indicates that a current emergency has been identified in the local area and people should seek further information immediately. The emergency incident will impact people in this area.
Always remember when hearing the Community Alert Siren it is your responsibility to seek further information. You can get information by tuning in to ABC local radio 774AM, 96.1FM, or SKY News, by downloading the VicEmergency app, phoning the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226 or following VicEmergency on Facebook or Twitter.

Future of our Forests.

Future of our Forests.

Through the 2018-19 budget, the Government has committed $35.9 million over four years to deliver greater community value from our forests.

This includes $17.6 million allocated to the modernisation of Victoria’s RFAs and forest management system, which will improve the long-term management of Victoria’s forests and ensure the RFAs reflect modern science and consider community needs.
The RFA modernisation program will include:

• Comprehensive engagement with Victorian communities about what they value in forests
• Redesign of what forest values information we collect and the way we collect that information
• Development of a vision for the future management of our forests
• Renewal of Victoria’s five RFAs
• Reform of environmental regulation of timber harvesting operations, and
• Refreshing forest management planning, including greater integration with fire planning.

The remaining $18.3 million has been committed to undertake pre-harvest surveys in timber harvesting coupes. This will provide greater operational certainty for the timber industry and improve the management and protection of threatened species. For more info - Forest Protection Survey Program

The Yarra Valley Railway

The Yarra Valley Railway (YVR) is a completely volunteer, not-for-profit community based organisation that is restoring the railway between Healesville and Yarra Glen.  Currently, the YVR operates tourist rail services on the Walker Railmotor from Healesville Station to Tarrawarra Estate, through the historic brick tunnel.
